Ammonia and propane refrigeration units
A wide range of solutions using natural refrigerants
Set apart by its exceptional thermodynamic properties, Madefrigor recognises ammonia as a powerful refrigerant, like all companies involved in food storage and industrial processing.
We produce, among other systems, ammonia refrigeration units in both direct expansion and flooded versions; propane and ammonia chillers; low-charge ammonia chillers for the agriculture and food industry; freon and ammonia refrigeration units in both direct expansion and flooded versions, as well as an ATEX version; ATEX propane and ammonia chillers; propane and ammonia chiller for MEG saline solutions reaching -40°; and propane and ammonia chillers for MEG diathermic oils reaching -40° for the pharmaceutical, petrochemical and logistics industries.
Ammonia refrigeration systems
Environmental and energy advantages
The choice of the refrigerant depends on the size of the system: for large capacities, a centralised system using ammonia or propane with glycol is a practical choice, as the special devices and technologies generally require modest quantities of fluids. The main advantage of this solution lies in the savings from reduced energy consumption, as these refrigerants ensure efficient heat transfer.
For small or medium environments, we recommend systems with glycol/water, which is cooled in a refrigeration unit and distributed to the rooms. This solution concentrates the refrigerant in a single area, offering clear environmental advantages.
Natural refrigerants
Natural refrigerants include ammonia (NH3), carbon dioxide (CO2), propane and others: ammonia is the most environmentally friendly of them all, with zero GWP and ODP.
Maximum efficiency
Ammonia systems are some of the most efficient options: from experience, a flooded ammonia system is 15-20% more efficient than traditional DX R404A systems.
Economical management
Ammonia requires pipes with a smaller diameter than most chemical refrigerants, allowing for the use of equipment with a smaller heat transfer area, and is an economical choice.
Ammonia is efficient and has very low running costs: the first choice for systems with a refrigeration capacity of 300 kw and over.
