Madefrigor has specialised in cooling for 50 years, and the company has developed a variety of industrial refrigeration solutions over the course of its long history. For example, we have researched the use of cooling in the fruit and vegetable sector, with a particular focus on fruit. We build and install fruit ripening and storage systems, including tropical fruits like bananas. Harvested while they are still green, bananas are transported over long distances, during which the ripening process is slowed down (variable temperatures of 12 °C/15 °C to avoid damage). The ripening process is activated in two phases, allowing the ripe fruits to be stored at room temperature. Madefrigor understands every stage of this process and designs its systems according to the specific needs of the different fruits, the customer and their expectations.

Degreening citrus fruit
Degreening citrus fruit is a delicate process that promotes uniform fruit colouring. It must be carried out in cold rooms fed with ethylene and a high concentration of oxygen, set at different temperatures depending on the fruit. For mandarins and similar fruits, the optimum degreening temperature is around 20 °C, while for oranges it is around 25 °C. In any case, the relative humidity must be 90-95% to reduce the weakening of the tissues and prevent excessive sweating and the detachment of the stalk.

Relative humidity
The correct humidity level in the cold rooms is determined by the difference between the refrigerant temperature and the ambient temperature.

Madefrigor manufactures small centralised refrigerant gas or ammonia systems to ensure low economic investments and energy consumption.
Centralised refrigeration units
Large refrigeration units are ideal for use with glycol/water: this solution concentrates the refrigerant in a single area, offering clear environmental advantages.
