We see refrigeration in a more sustainable light, tackling widespread environmental concerns and significantly decreasing energy consumption and emissions, driven by both the increasingly stringent regulations and the strong sense of social responsibility that has always defined our business. We are particularly interested in zero-impact refrigerants such as carbon dioxide (CO2), ammonia and propane, which respect the environment and save energy.

Ammonia refrigeration systems

Ammonia (NH3) systems are very versatile and offer refrigeration levels ranging from 2 °C to –40 °C. They also guarantee much higher cooling performance than other fluids, which translates into lower energy expenditure with the same cooling power, especially for large systems.

This natural refrigerant offers undisputed advantages in terms of energy efficiency, but it is also highly toxic and flammable, requiring equipment that can increase the system costs, avoiding direct expansion and combining it with glycol/water or carbon dioxide. On the other hand, the energy savings and ease of maintenance of ammonia systems outweigh the possible higher initial costs.

CO2 refrigeration systems

It is estimated that CO2 systems offer energy savings of up to 30% compared to a traditional HFC system, in addition to the reduced operating costs. With high volumetric efficiency and impressive thermophysical properties, they can be installed with smaller pipes and compressors and thinner insulation.

CO2 does not damage the ozone layer, and it has 4,000 times less impact in terms of global warming compared to traditional refrigerants, but these systems have also proved to be very efficient. Cascade systems with CO2 offer a high level of efficiency in all climatic conditions and transcritical systems are the ideal solution for mild climates.
