Clean rooms must minimise the introduction, generation and presence of particles inside the room. They are used in highly specialised sectors (nuclear, electronics, pharmaceutical) and the agriculture and food industry, where the specific product characteristics, packaging, and life cycle require a great deal of attention to avoid contamination.

As clean room designers and installers, we are focused on four key cornerstones: the processing environment, the operating staff, the product, and the air handling system. These aspects must also be taken into consideration for classification purposes (ISO 14644), which requires the measurement of airborne particles with a size equal to or greater than 0.5 μm.

In the cured meats sector, clean rooms are used in the slicing (cooked or raw cured meats) or dicing lines, while in the other agriculture and food sectors they are used in certain preparation areas and in the cutting and packaging departments.
Applications in the medical/healthcare sector
Healthcare professionals use the aseptic technique, i.e., without germs (viruses, bacteria, fungi), to protect patients from infections and to carry out certain medical procedures, e.g., drug development.
Applications in the logistics industry
Clean rooms are also increasingly prevalent in the logistics management of frozen goods, fresh food or pharmaceutical products that require controlled atmospheres, often isolated from other spaces, as they are used as frozen storage and cold rooms.
